I have spent the last 6 months in rehabilitation at Capitol Rehab Center. I was admitted with an injury which left me very dependent on everything when I first arrived here. I was fully dependent on a peg tub for nutrition, dependent on the staff for all my dressing, bathing, and mobility skills. Throughout the months, I spent my therapy time with Jared and Tim from physical therapy and with Lauren from Occupational therapy. Physical therapy gave me the skills I needed to assist in my bed mobility and functional mobility tasks. Occupational therapy taught me the skills I needed to assist myself in upper body dressing, bathing, and oral care. I was not able to move or assist in movement with my wheelchair at all when I first got here and now, I can get myself around with rest breaks and cues. The speech therapist, Jocelyn taught me the skills I needed to go from dependency on a tube to being able to feed myself. I must say the food was good once I got to eat. I especially loved the ice cream treats. The nursing team provided wonderful care to me especially Cristy, Mariam, Lori, and the one who winks at me every day. (I can’t remember her name). Dr. Nemani, my physician at the facility, checked on me every morning when he was here, and I appreciated that.
